Replacing Leather Strops

Instructions for replacing leathers on the strops
(Blue letters indicate a clickable link)

Remove old strop leathers
Pull off the old strops using a pair of needle nose pliers
Clean off old glue (using
Goo-Gone (or similar))
Apply Loctite Vinyl, Fabric and Plastic Repair Adhesive to the inside of the handle
Place the new leather strop (smooth side facing out) on the glue

Repeat for all the other sides

Place a heavy book on the new strops for 24 hours

Re-charge strops
Re-charge the strops using the diamond paste compound
 - put an inch of paste on the middle on one side and ‘smoosh' the paste over the entire length of the strop
 - don’t worry if you don’t get much paste on the last 1/2” of the strop
(you won’t be using this part)
** Make sure you put the paste on the correct side **
 - i.e. 5micron with 5micron, the same with 3.5micron

 -
read the instructions
 - watch the video
 - strop from Front to Back

- always and only move the strops in an upward and continuous motion

Suggestion:
Before you replace the strops
 - sand the old strops down
 - without any compound, ‘practice’ stropping with the old strops to make sure you can strop without damaging the strops
