Advanced Techniques
The basic angles I recommend are 21 degrees on the left side and 23 degrees on the right side.
Wider sharpening angles
A second technique is to change the right side to 25 degrees. You can use 20 or 21 on the left side.
Creating a facing first
Low angle sharpening
Because of the nature of our knives, you may not be able to sharpen at anglers lower than 19-20 degrees.
If you prefer that your knives be sharpened at a lower angle, i.e. 17-19 degrees, there are solutions for this.

Chosera Water Stones
One of the exciting features of Wicked Edge is that the Chosera Water Stones are available (400-10000 grit).
These provide a superior Edge and a wonderful polished finish
There are some knives that have a tendency to chatter when sharpened with diamond stones and these can be quite challenging.
The Water Stones are less abrasive and will sharpen even these knives beautifully.

A second technique is to change the right side to 25 degrees. You can use 20 or 21 on the left side.
- This produces a slightly more significant burr that you may find better under certain circumstances.
- Strop at the angles you chose like normal
- There are many other possibilities - feel free to experiment.
- Share your experiences with others on the Wicked Edge Double Reed Forum
Creating a facing first
- Create a facing at a lower angle - 18-20 degrees
- Sharpen only the left side of the knife with an 800 grit stone at 20-21 degrees
- Then sharpen only the right side of the knife with the same stone at 25 degrees
- Switch to a higher grit depending on which stones you have (i.e. 1000, 1600, 2000 ect.)
- Again sharpen only the left side 20-21 degrees
- Sharpen the right side at 25 degrees
- Strop as normal at the same angles
- This creates a double bevel
